Review: Aladdin MiGo mug *UPDATED*

January 5th, 2010 Posted in reviews

Some of you may be familiar with my fascination for snack teas, though I imagine most have no idea that my passion for snackable teas runs deep. No bullshit, bottom line: I pretty much love awesome snack teas. They’re like the best, or whatever.

Until recently I wasn’t in the market for a snack tea mug, but certain circumstances with certain plastic mugs that certainly have been around for a long time had made me certain that I needed to get a new mug and prompted me to enter said market. I’d had my eyes on some new mugs from Aladdin as I browsed the Target aisles for toothpaste, blenders, bright blue wool v-neck sweaters, and other assorted mostly-shit-but-too-cheap-to-say-no-to items, but it was never necessary. That was the case, until the circumstance happened.

To replace that old (but much-loved and admirably transcontinental) plastic mug and enhance my snack tea experience, I picked up this bad boy from Target. It’s called the MiGo Senja 16oz Desktop Mug, and it’s awesome. Since most of my snack teaing happens at the office, my first stop once arriving at work was the kitchen…this mug, per the instructions, needed to be hand-washed with warm water and a mild detergent before use. You could probably put it in the dishwasher, but let’s be honest, who wants to use a corporate dishwasher anyway, eh? Away I went with the washing and detergenting, and boy, did this mug handle. A wide diameter from top to bottom made it easy to get my hand in there and make sure I cleaned away all of the Target dust (you know what I’m talking about.) After letting the mug+warm water+detergent combo sit for five minutes, I returned for the final dry. Again, wide diameter= no issues. *DISCLAIMER* I have small hands. Mileage may vary when placing your hand(s) inside MiGo.

Snack time, I said, and dropped a satchel of  Vanilla Almond Black Tea from The REPUBLIC OF TEA into my new bro then proceeded to water-cooler me up some steaming H2O. Being a conservative first-sipper, I was immediately pleased with the level of reassurance that the lip of this mug provided. It curves gently towards the outer edge of the mug, which spreads the snack tea wider than a normal mug and allows the user to have more control over the speed and volume of the first-sip. Burned lips? Not around these parts…

Other stuff…? Handle’s solid, this thing feels like a good mug. There’s a small recessed portion on the top of the handle which allows a thumb to both rest comfortably and assist with mug control…classy. Aladdin’s online store sells a chrome-ish model with black or blue accents, but Target has them in a pewter color, which is way more awesome. I don’t use lids on snack tea mugs so I can’t comment on the ability of the MiGo lid to reduce on-the-go spillage, but I can tell you that it’s black and plastic and fits snug. Also, the logo on the outside is largely unnoticeable and unobtrusive.

Overall, basically, this mug gets a rating of awesome.

UPDATE: Someone in the office complemented this mug as it was being refilled. They then requested a test hold, which I granted, and commented on the attractive look. Awesome x2.
